Did you know you can stay in these iconic properties?

As we approach the festive season at warp speed, many of us are starting to consider where we might be spending a bit of time in the new year.

As we know, with the pandemic restricting travel to much of the rest of the world over the past 18 months or so, domestic stays have become much more popular as holiday goers have decided not to take the added risk of possible cancellations.

Holidays in the UK, whether that’s caravans, camping or cottage stays, have soared in popularity and businesses like booking.com, AirBnB and others have all seen a bumper booking season.

With the recent reintroduction of testing requirements when going on holiday thanks to the Omicron variant, there is now an expectation that this could continue through to the summer.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of properties that are offering magical one-off stays.

The house from home alone

As reported by Sky News this week, the house from Home Alone is now available to be rented on a one night only basis.

The iconic house, in Chicago in the US, can be rented for up to 4 people and you can enter a raffle to stay for just $19. The stay is being hosted by ‘Buzz McCallister’ and the actor that played Buzz will be there to welcome you upon your stay.

The listing says ‘You may not remember me as particularly accommodating but I’ve grown up, and I’d be happy to share my family home – my pizza, even – with you this holiday season. Just try not to let my tarantula, Axl, loose this time.’

Winnie the Pooh’s house

In the original 100 acre wood in the Ashdown forest in Essex, the ‘BearBnB’ is being advertised to mark the 95th anniversary of the release of the original stories.

According to the listing, ‘‘The ‘Bearbnb’ is a unique experience that brings the charm of Pooh to life for fans, whilst honouring the original adventures that have been so important to many people for 95 years.’

It’s only offered for a short period to celebrate the anniversary of Winnie the Pooh, but comes amidst more and more specialist stays on holiday sites in the UK due to popularity.

Longer term property investment

In the longer run, there’s not much expectation that this trend will continue as restrictions are lifted and international travel becomes easier again.

Realistically, whilst holidays in the UK may well retain some popularity it’s not massively likely that it will continue in the same way it has done over the past 2 years.

There has absolutely been an increase in investment in holiday rentals and lets across the UK, however, the smart money very much remains in the buy to let market.

Already confirmed this week is another year of 10% price growth in the UK market despite the ending of stamp duty holidays and other government support, indicating a healthy and strong market that will continue to grow well into 2022 and beyond.
